I will soon exhibit one of the soft sculpture installation works from the \u201cMemory Engram \u2013 Traces of Memory\u201d series in Guangzhou.<\/p>\n
This series was born from the grief of losing my beloved cat, Neneko, in November 2021. The concept is as follows:<\/p>\n
Concept I used to have a cat adapted in Shanghai, I really loved and cared her a lot. But she passed away on November 1st in 2021. I was in a deep sorrow. But soon after I noticed that I really can\u2019t remember her detail clearly like her expression of the face, the way she moves, the touch of her skin, etc. I thought I was too shocked to remember, after a few days some images of her memory start appearing in my head, but these images are very fragmental, then I noticed the fragility of memory.<\/p>\n \u201cMemory Engram\u201d is a unit of cognitive information imprinted in a physical substance. Our memories are recorded in neurons deep in the brain, and are remembered by some kind of trigger to the sixth sense, such as a certain scenery, sound, smell, or touch.<\/p>\n There are many aspects of the brain that are still unknown, but it is said that there is even a whole universe inside the brain. All living things can exist as real objects only for a short period of time. However, if the memory of a deceased someone remains deep in the brain, it is as if that someone still exists in the universe.<\/p>\n Then our bodies are slowly being broken down into subatomic particles and then reborn as other objects. And after we are reborn, we create new memories, and the history of birth and decomposition, repeated over and over again, continues forever.<\/p>\n I created this series to preserve my fear of losing my memory and the realizations I have gained from losing my cat.<\/p>\n The soft sculpture installation pieces are designed for the audience to directly touch and enjoy the soft texture.<\/p>\n Neneko, during her life, was a chubby cat. This work was also created during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I wanted to offer something comforting and healing to others, which is why I created such a large plush sculpture.<\/p>\n This installation will also be exhibited at my solo exhibition in Tokyo at the end of July, so please come and see it there as well.<\/p>\n I will be participating in the \u201c\u827a\u30fb\u65e0\u754c Art Without Boundaries\u201d<\/strong> exhibition, part of the Guangdong International Art Week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Dates:<\/strong> Venue:<\/strong> Nan Feng International Convention & Exhibition Center\uff08\u5357\u4e30\u56fd\u9645\u4f1a\u5c55\u4e2d\u5fc3<\/a>\uff09 Entrance Fee:<\/strong> 68RMB<\/p>\n In addition to the installation, several two-dimensional works will also be exhibited.
