Suzhou is a wonderful watertown but I also recommended small water town “ZhuJiaJiao”. I really love this town, even I once tried to move to here. There’s a bus stop to ZhuJiaJiao (PuAn Road x YanAn Road,12RMB) and it takes about 50 minutes. You can also take bus in Shanghai gymnasium, it’s 80 RMB by round trip (including ZhuJiaJiao admission fee), but after 10am there’s no bus from Shanghai gymnasium, so please be careful. Since there are many small street and many bridges, no car can go inside, so you can enjoy Old Chinese atmosphere. And many fashionable shops are opening recently. This town is much larger than imagined, it takes quite long time to walk from the edge to the edge.
Staying there for one night is also recommended because there are some guesthouses, etc. Though there are a lot of tourists in daytime, it’s completly quiet at night, the feeling is like you are in old China movie. “UMA HOSTEL” where I have stayed once is a old rennovated fashionable house, staying here is also nice. Because of the Expo, price of hotels in Shanghai is rising. So I recommend to confirm the price when you book the hotel.
