These are videos and photos of my solo exhibition “Parallel World” held at the end of my artist residence in Suzhou China in March 2018.
Even though it was only one week’s exhibition, a big poster of 3 meters was made, characters on the cutting sheet were stuck on the walls, etc., too much preparations were made by local staff and actually I thought it’s too much but I really appreciate it. Since people were working so hard to prepare my exhibition, I thought “I had to finish my artwork whatever happens!” Before the opening day, I did the setting of my installation all night, because my artwork is too sensitive no one else can help with that.
I managed to finish my installation until opening and I was able to start exhibiting it safely together with the other artworks I brought from Japan. The exhibition space is about 300 m² and my artwork takes long time to make, so my artworks tend to be small, it became an exhibition with many gaps in exhibition space, but I thought we could manage large space well by considering how to display.
The Suzhou silk embroidery thread used in installation is very delicate, it is easy to get entangled, even if something is caught a bit, it gets fuzzed so it is very difficult to handle. Threads got tangled a little during installing exhibition, it was so hard to solve it!
We did not have much time to announce it because I decided to hold the exhibition about three weeks before, but I was relieved by that many people came to the opening party.
After the opening, a fancy dinner was served by the hotel chef’s service in the banquet room located in the creative area where I stayed in.
I am really surprised with that!
