I visited Museu Coleção Berardo during my stay in Lisbon. It was just in front of Espaço Espelho d’Água where I stayed for installing my group exhibition.
It is a museum with a very substantial collection of modern and contemporary art. Since the way of exhibition is divided into sections for each movement, it is easy to understand, so I think that people who are not familiar with art history can enjoy it. I saw a group like junior high school students, I think it is probably as part of art classes.
I went there with the artists who exhibited together, but since each artist likes different artwork, when I look at a certain work, another artist said “I thought this is your type of work!” , it is very fun to see an art exhibition like this.
Of course the collection contains very well known artists I know well, but also it contains various artists I did not know, sometimes there are also unusual works that we rarely seen in the museum, there was a fresh surprise. Early works of Mark Rothko are totally different paintings from that square artworks, but they already have an atmosphere that seems to be Mark Rothko. Then I thought “After all, Mark Rothko was naturally born to be a Mark Rothko !”.
Some person says my artwork is like Mark Rothko, but my work is very colorful, and it seems like it’s difficult to explain why he/she feels like that. So still don’t know the reason.
* I photographed only my favorite works and the order is also random, so it may not be very helpful.
