I’ve checked artist residency near hot spring (Onsen) in Japan. If you are an artist and want to make artworks in Japan and enjoy hot spring at one time, these are the best places to stay.
(Unfortunately some of these websites are written only in Japanese and don’t have English version…)

Tottorigeiju festival http://tottorigeiju.com/ Tottori, held in some areas include hot spring town during Sep – Nov.

Kinosaki International Arts Center http://kiac.jp/en/ Hyogo, residency for performing arts located at a hot spring town.

Beppu Project http://www.beppuproject.com/ Ohita, art project in Beppu Onsen. There’s an annual apartment rent for artists for only 10,000JPN per month, they call for application only in Feb.

Art Bridge 1301 http://1301.artmimasaka.jp/index.html Okayama, Art event held in July – Dec include hot spring area.

Fuwarinomori Artist Residency http://www.fuwarinomoriart.jp/ Chiba, new residency near Narita airport.

Contemporary Fiber Artist Hidemi Shimura
An artist who creates artworks mainly using embroidery threads. Majored in fashion design at university, and after graduation began working in 3DCG production. In 2005, she began her career as a contemporary artist. In 2006, she moved to Shanghai, a city she fell in love with after a company trip. Although she did not intend to stay in Shanghai for that long, she ended up living there for almost 7 years due to unexpected matters, such as the closure of art galleries due to the world economy crisis. Returned to Japan in December 2013 and currently resides in Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture. Continues to work as a contemporary artist. Currently, she is working on creating many artworks for the 20th anniversary of her career as an artist in 2025.
