I have been working on creating many artworks recently, and a new series has been born, which I would like to introduce to you.
I haven’t taken proper photos yet, so this photo was taken with my smartphone.
The center part has an acrylic mirror on the back, so the colors changes depending on the environment.

The title is “Somewhat beautiful, but damaged”.

This series is a new work that uses a technique similar to a combination of the following two series, which were created mainly during COVID-19 pandemic..

Boundaries

I created this work with an eye toward a structure that could be developed into a large-scale installation.

This is the concept of this work at this time.

This artwork is dedicated to those who continue to live in an ever-changing and unstable world.

Human beings are affected by their surroundings and circumstances, yet continue to move forward with flexibility and strength. The intricately intertwined threads represent the strength of people who continue to move forward in the face of diverse environments and circumstances, each of which can be traumatic.

In today’s society, people continue to have the strength to survive without losing sight of themselves, even in the midst of increasing economic insecurity, social tension, and environmental change. This work is dedicated to “all people living in such unstable times,” and celebrates the vitality of human beings who try to live beautifully in the face of difficulties.

The concept statement may be reworked later, but this is the general intent.

This concept is meant to be an expansion of the “Morning Dawn” series concept.

Morning Dawn

The concept is this.

One afternoon in front of the train station, I saw a young man smoking his cigarette and whispering die die die… I thought, “This guy is mentally sick!” And also I thought, “What a difficult world we live in!”.
I accepted his whispers as a voice of protest against society, and created this series of artworks.

The morning Dawn is strange, it’s always the same sun, but the color is entirely different by the place, air temperature, weather, etc. The same way we are in each different place in this world and we are living each person’s life with different happiness and troubles.

We feel healed and encouraged when we see the morning dawn. I hope people who saw this work will feel like being cheered up like when people see the morning dawn.

To be honest, when I see an irritated person on the street, I usually think, “Why is this person so angry? Is he/she a little unstable at heart?” But around the time I created this work, for some reason, I often saw such irritated people on the streets, and I felt that the world would become a difficult place to live if this situation continued.

However, I felt that people’s way of being is affected by the environment around them, and that these frustrated people, who may originally be calm and good people, may have only temporarily become angry people due to the unstable social environment.

I took their frustration as a voice of protest against the world, and sublimated their frustration into my artwork by using the main technique of my artwork, which is the continuous coiling of thread, an act that requires patience and is normally frustrating.

However, after the Covid-19, the world became more and more unstable… and so I decided to create a new series.

Currently, there is only one work, but I will continue to add to it.

Also, I have been working for a while to create many new artworks and my stock of works has been growing, so I will write about it again.
